Do you need to manage labels in Jira? Do you need to find duplicates? Do you need to rename, merge, delete labels entirely? Do you want to get overview of all labels used in your project? With Label Manager & Editor for Jira you can do all of above and much more.
In order to view all labels and number of issues under a specific label, click on Manage Labels tab on left sidebar in your Jira project.
1.2 View all labels in one place (globally)
Sometimes you might want to administer labels system wide affecting all projects. To do so, go to Jira top navigation and find Manage Labels.
Please note that this feature needsadmin or global permissions. If you do not see Manage Labels tab, it is likely that you do not have permission. Please ask your admin for access rights.
If you are admin or have correct permissions, it should look like below:
2.1 View all issues under a label, rename or delete a label
You can sort labels by number of issues or alphabetically. Go to view filter link to see all issues under a label and there is also option to change name or delete the label entirely.
Please note: If you are in global mode, administrative actions (rename, delete etc.) will affect all projects. If you do not want this, use per project label management.
2.2 Merge two or more labels
Merging labels is also possible, albeit using renaming feature. For example, if you have three labels named backend, back-end and Backend and want to keep only the last one i.e Backend, you can rename the first two labels to Backend. This way, those labels will be merged.
Field 'labels' cannot be set. It is not on the appropriate screen, or unknown.
When editing label name, you might get the above error. This happens when label is not in Create or Edit Screen. You can add label to those screen, and it should work as expected.
You can find screens from Project settings → Screens.
